Guide - Change Default Browser in Outlook Desktop App

Issue/Question

  • Clicking a link in the Outlook app takes me to Microsoft Edge/Bing instead of my Default Browser.
  • Opening a shared document link in Outlook opens it in Microsoft Edge/Bing and says the Organization has deleted my account.
  • Changing the Default Browser does not prevent links from opening in Microsoft Edge.

Environment

  • Outlook Desktop App

Cause

  • If clicking a shared link in Outlook takes you to Microsoft Edge instead of the default browser, a recent Windows update has changed how it handles links within Outlook.

Resolution

Open the Outlook Desktop App and go to File > Options > Advanced > scrolling down to Link Handling and changing the “Open hyperlinks from Outlook in:” option from Microsoft Edge to Default Browser and then clicking OK.
