Microsoft Teams Recordings Location and Expiration Settings

If you’re having issues locating a Teams recording after a meeting you just finished, usually, there are two different places to find the meeting recordings based on where you scheduled the meeting.

Meeting Scheduled Using Teams or Outlook Calendar

If the meeting was scheduled using your Teams calendar or your Outlook calendar and you didn’t select any channels, then the recording will be saved on your OneDrive account under the “Recordings” folder. If unsure, you can always go back to the meeting chat and select “View recap,” this will open the recording using Microsoft Stream:

Meeting Scheduled within a Team Channel

If a meeting was scheduled within a Team Channel or selecting one of the Teams Channels while scheduling the meeting from your Teams or Outlook calendar, the recording will be saved on the SharePoint of the Team Channel, as shown below:

Recording Expiration Settings

After a meeting is recorded by default, it has an expiration date of 120 days. When the recording expires, it will be moved to the recycling bin of either your OneDrive account or the SharePoint of the Team channel, depending on where the recording was previously saved.

If the recording is moved to the recycling bin, you will still have 30 days to recover it, but after 30 days, the recording will be permanently deleted.

If you'd like to keep the recording or remove the expiration date, you can do so. You can download the recording via Stream from where it is in the “Recordings” folder or move the recording to another folder within your OneDrive. You can remove the expiration by going to the recording via Stream and removing the expiration as shown below:
