Mentimeter - How to Create Quiz Slides and enable the Leaderboard option

Before you get started

If this is your first time using Mentimeter, please create an account with your USAHS email address on Mentimeter using this link: https://www.mentimeter.com/join/usahs.

Mentimeter is available for free university-wide to anyone with an @usa.edu email address.

Creating Quiz slides

1. From your Mentimeter home dashboard, click on the dropdown menu that says New Menti.

2. Select the New quiz option to create quiz slides.

3. You will be prompted to select one of the quiz templates or create your own by choosing the Blank option. Select the Blank option.

4. You will have three options to choose from. You can choose the best option for your situation. For demonstration purposes, I will use Start from scratch.

5. I highly recommend using the Instructions slide first so participants can follow along and/or join before starting a quiz on Mentimeter. Otherwise, you may use anything else.

Choosing the Instructions slide will create a slide with a QR code valid for 2 days before it expires. You may prolong this code by clicking the Share button at the top-right of the screen next to Present.

Adding a Leaderboard slide

1. To enable the Leaderboard option, choose Select Answer or Type Answer from the Quiz competitions section. (Leaderboard is only available from Quiz competitions)

2. Choosing Select Answer will create a multiple-choice slide. Choosing Type Answer will prompt participants to type the correct answer(s). Either automatically generates a Quiz Leaderboard slide as a second slide by default.

You can disable this option by clicking on the slider that says "Add leaderboard."

3. Every time you create a new slide this way, it will automatically create a Quiz Leaderboard slide.

To circumvent this, go to the Select Answer slide, click on the three dots, and use the Duplicate slide feature if you anticipate creating additional multiple-choice questions. (This may still create an additional Leaderboard slide.)

4. Delete any additional Quiz Leaderboard slides. You will only need one of these slides after the last quiz slide to show the final results. Alternatively, you can leave these additional slides in so your participants stay engaged after each question to see where they stand.
